About Highland Hills Apiary
Highland Hills Apiary is a small beekeeping operation with the majority of our production colonies located in Champaign and Clark counties. Our main focus is to assist fellow beekeepers and provide valuable education on beekeeping and queen rearing. Additionally, we offer a range of products, including honey, creamed honey, flavored honey, beeswax products, propolis tincture (as well as salve and lip balm), NUCS, and grafted queens from our proven stock of Ohio feral bees. Our bees are highly regarded for their gentle nature, impressive honey production, and natural ability to resist mites.
Organic?
Bees possess an impressive ability to journey up to 5 miles in their quest for pollen and nectar. It is crucial to acknowledge that honey cannot attain organic certification unless it originates from a farm spanning at least 100 square miles. Avoid being deceived by false assertions.
Eco-Fiendly
Our honeybees are sourced through swarm trapping from locally adapted Ohio feral stock. These feral bees exhibit high resistance to mites and are prolific honey producers. We strongly advise against purchasing package bees that have not been raised in your region, as they are unlikely to thrive.
Natural
Our honey is carefully collected and extracted using radial extraction from combs that are 1-3 years old. To ensure the highest quality, we filter our raw honey using stainless steel 300-micron filters, preserving all enzymes, proteins, and other beneficial components. The honey is then stored in 100°F water-jacketed stainless steel bottling tanks or in 5-gallon food-safe buckets with secure lids.
